Saber Onyx was born in Chicago, Illinois, raised in Detroit, Michigan, and currently resides in Georgia. He is married to New Chameleon Onyx, and together they continue to build a loving leather family. Saber is highly educated, holding five degrees, and is currently pursuing his PhD.
Saber’s leather journey began at the original Detroit Eagle, where the industrial warehouse atmosphere first piqued his curiosity. What began as curiosity soon became a personal journey of exploration, learning, and self-discovery. Surrounded by men in chaps, harnesses, vests, and leather, Saber was initially taken back, but he was also determined to understand the culture, the people, and the deeper meaning of leather.

Later in life, Saber returned to Chicago, where the next chapter of his leather journey began. In 2016, ONYX Midwest provided him with a powerful opportunity for growth, brotherhood, service, and self-understanding. He previously served as President of ONYX Midwest from early 2018 through early 2020 and is a proud son of Mufasa’s Pride. Saber was also Mr. Chicago Leather 2019 and went on to compete at International Mr. Leather, where he placed in the Top 20. He also maintains affiliations and community connections through health care, advocacy, civic engagement, and service-based organizations.

Saber believes that brotherhood is more than a word; it is a way of living. To him, brotherhood serves as a bridge that brings people from all walks of life together while creating a stronger, safer, and more supportive leather journey. He strives to be a beacon of light within the leather community by touching lives in ways that promote positivity, wisdom, empowerment, and knowledge.

Saber is deeply committed to leather mentorship and to supporting the next generation of leather individuals as they learn, grow, and discover their place within the leather community. He believes mentorship should create safe spaces where individuals feel seen, respected, encouraged, and free to explore who they are.

Outside of his leather journey, Saber enjoys exploring life, kink, and fetishes with his husband. He is also actively involved in volunteerism, charitable giving, advocacy, and community-based work. His service has included involvement with ONYX Cares Midwest, Heartland Alliance LinkUP Chicago, and a docu-article and research study Crystal CLEAR Chicago that was led by Dr. Keith R. Green, formerly of Loyola University Chicago, that documented the emerging methamphetamine epidemic among Black gay, bisexual, and same-gender-loving men in Chicago. Through this work and other community efforts, Saber has remained committed to wellness, education, research, advocacy, and community empowerment.

Saber is committed to empowering individuals and communities to create meaningful, positive change through education, advocacy, wellness, and action. His work focuses on addressing social challenges and advancing social justice by partnering with those directly impacted by economic, social, and political inequities. He believes everyone deserves fair access to resources, services, and opportunities, and he encourages individuals and communities to take an active role in shaping their own futures through engagement and participation.

His vision is to help build a more just, compassionate, and equitable future for all while continuing to serve as a mentor, advocate, brother, husband, leader, and beacon of light in the leather community.
